My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lennon’s historical novel is the story of two layabout Syracusians directing Athenian prisoners of war in two Euripides plays, all told in a razor-sharp Irish brogue. The book has a rocky, stalling start, but once our characters are put on stage, the novel shines. It’s a poignant, hilarious, eminently quotable look at the power of love and art over division and war. The world might be a wounded thing, but Glorious Exploits shows how we can heal it with stories.
