The C*ck Down the Block by Amy Award
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
At the start of the year, I made a resolution to read more in genres I usually avoid (such as Romance). C*ck Down the Block was recommended by my library reading app of choice, so here I am. Obviously, I’m not a usual romance reader so take what follows with a grain of salt.
C*ck Down the Block is a fun, delightfully smutty, body-positive romance. Our main characters are easy to root for and their romance through the course of the novel gives off satisfying, classic rom-com vibes.
It does, however feel like the book climaxes early (pun intended). Later chapters feel cobbled together and tacked on. There are also a few unneeded “plot Band-Aids.” For example, it’s briefly explained why Pro QB Chris likes big women, or why our Librarian Trixie is a virgin. No explanation is really needed. And for a book that professes body positivity to the point of spelling it out in a foreword, there is a serious lack of plus-sized men.
Overall, C*ck Down the Block is a bubbly read that feels steamy in all the right places.
