Book Bites - The Secret Life of the Universe

The Secret Life of the Universe: An Astrobiologist's Search for the Origins and Frontiers of LifeThe Secret Life of the Universe: An Astrobiologist's Search for the Origins and Frontiers of Life by Nathalie A. Cabrol
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The thesis of The Secret Life of The Universe is that life is tenacious and incredibly complex and the universe is vast beyond comprehension: of course life exists somewhere. Only our cosmic short-sightedness keeps us from seeing that life indeed is all around. The book is thorough bordering on dry but never lingers on a topic longer than needed. Life on Mercury or Venus? It’s possible. Mars probably had life. Not to mention literal billions of exoplanets. Secret Life is an informative (without being jargon heavy) and surprisingly uplifting overview of where humanity will one day find life beyond Earth.
