The Life-Changing Science of Detecting Bullshit by John V. Petrocelli
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Building on books like, “On Bullshit” and “Thinking Fast and Slow,” “The Life-Changing Science of Detecting Bullshit” combats disinformation and hokum with science. You know you’re in for a treat when a books epigraph quote both Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico and Carl Sagan. Using humor and the latest science, Petrocelli gives readers a full toolkit for diagnosing and combating bullshit. Simple steps like asking “how” instead of “why” and explanations of what makes one “bullable” (gullible to bull) make for an easy and memorable read. Some anecdotal examples meander and veer, but overall this book is worth its weight in anti-bullshit gold.
